During my early days working at Universal Med Apparel, I was responsible for creating a modern, easy-to-use e-commerce website for retail and business customers. Their primary platform at the time was a hosted proprietary system with limited customization options and poor support for mass product updates. In addition they had several other e-commerce sites on different platforms and hosts which made maintenance very time-consuming.
They needed a new e-commerce system that could easily support multiple stores and allowed great flexibility and growth. For their new site, I went with Magento for its flexibility, active community support, and wide-range of extensions. Within three months, they had a modern responsive retail website and several custom stores for business-to-business customers.
In addition to developing the design and structure of the site, I also found the need to create custom scripts to support the product catalog and order processing. This included scripts to pull inventory levels from various vendors and update the product catalog, database maintenance, and custom report generation, and more.
This is an ongoing project.
